Need help identifying some shark teeth

Recommended Posts

kristin92

Hello everyone. I stumbled upon this forum when I was looking to try to identify some shark teeth that I have found when I was vacationing last summer ('16 -- North Myrtle Beach) and this summer ('17 -- Surfside Beach, SC ... south of n. myrtle & myrtle). Found the black ones in the sand, by the water, the really white ones, I found in the softer, dry sand.

I'm hoping someone will be able to help me identify some of these, that way I know exactly what i've found. :)

Thanks in advance :dinothumb:

thank you!  whoops. brain fart, didn't even think to do that. i just went and numbered them. sorry.

#1 & #2, i had a pretty good idea that was what those were, but i still wasn't 100% sure. the little ones are so hard to tell the difference between, so i tried to group them together, the best that i could. and i tried getting as good of a picture as i could.

#12, curves up some, idk if that would still be a lemon or not.

thank you :)

You have two very fine examples of Great Whites - the first two depicted shark teeth. The color of the two teeth is also unusual.

That is one tooth front and back.

i wish i had two. lol. but like ynot said, it's a front and a back. i tried to do front and back to help determine what shark the tooth came from. i actually found that great white tooth up in the softer sand. surfside beach is going through beach nourishment so they're bringing sand from the sea up to the beach to fix it after it got nailed by the hurricane last fall. so i'm not sure if it came up with that sand or if had just been up there in the soft sand, getting sun bleached and no one noticed it... hard to say.

Yes, two views of the same tooth!! Not very observant on my part. In any case a very nice Great White tooth. We spent four months on Hilton Head this Winter while a renourishment project was underway. Shark tooth hunting on the island has always been minimally productive. However, the new sand was totally void of any tooth or bone material. After the first week or so it was obvious there were no teeth to find - at least for the moment.
