Hi

Im a building contractor and whilst working on a job in London, England I noticed this fossil in a floor tile. Could someone please ID? Sorry, there is nothing beside the fossil to indicate size but I would estimate it to be between 30-40mm.

Many Thanks

Hi, welcome to the forum. It's a longitudinal section of a piece of crinoid stem, possibly Carboniferous in age. Crinoidal limestone is often used as an ornamental stone - it can be largely made of crinoid bits sometimes.

I knew a guy years ago who bought a bunch of tile to do his bathroom and found all kinds of fossil bits in them.  Was really cool.
