fossilized nut at Joggins cliff?

Joggins

Recommended Posts

I found a few of these at Joggins fossil cliffs on Nova Scotia. I wonder if it's a nut from the Coal Age tree in the forest fossilized within the cliffs?

Hi,

I don't know if those are nuts. I wonder if they aren't concretions infilled, but i'm not sure.

Could you post us photos from the other side, of the top and of the bottom of each piece ?

Here is a website that shows some fossils of Joggins cliffs : http://jogginsfossilcliffs.net/

I've looked at some photos of that place and see that there are some places were the rocks have that ironish color.

Yeah I'd agree ironstone concretion.

Thank you both! I looked at some pictures and I can see that they're concretions. Like you said fifbrindacier, there are lots of rocks of that color on the cliffs. Thank you for the link, there were tons of really well-preserved tree and leaf impressions from calamite and lycopsid trees at the site.

If you don't mind, I have one more I wasn't sure about. Any idea what these are?20626145_10100404467630442_6082410585568170867_o.thumb.jpg.78bb08da48411b4bd05323719026aeac.jpg

Here's what I think is a calamite stem from Joggins.

Very neat! Joggins is certainly a fascinating, world-class site. If you are at the Joggins official park, never feel shy about showing what you've found to the staff there (I think they have reflective vests so easily identifiable!).

It isn't. They make that clear to the visitors to the park. The OP did not say the item was collected, but found. I assume (hope) it was left at the site.
