Joggins
I found a few of these at Joggins fossil cliffs on Nova Scotia. I wonder if it's a nut from the Coal Age tree in the forest fossilized within the cliffs?
Joggins
Another image of a similar fossil.
fifbrindacier
Hi, I don't know if those are nuts. I wonder if they aren't concretions infilled, but i'm not sure. Could you post us photos from the other side, of the top and of the bottom of each piece ? Here is a website that shows some fossils of Joggins cliffs : http://jogginsfossilcliffs.net/ "On ne voit bien que par le coeur, l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux." ynot
Welcome to TFF! Sorry but those are concretions not seeds of fossils of any kind. They do look neat. fifbrindacier
I've looked at some photos of that place and see that there are some places were the rocks have that ironish color. Miocene_Mason
Yeah I'd agree ironstone concretion. “...whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been and are being evolved.” ~ Charles Darwin Happy hunting, Mason
Joggins
Thank you both! I looked at some pictures and I can see that they're concretions. Like you said fifbrindacier, there are lots of rocks of that color on the cliffs. Thank you for the link, there were tons of really well-preserved tree and leaf impressions from calamite and lycopsid trees at the site. If you don't mind, I have one more I wasn't sure about. Any idea what these are? Here's what I think is a calamite stem from Joggins.

Kane
Very neat! Joggins is certainly a fascinating, world-class site. If you are at the Joggins official park, never feel shy about showing what you've found to the staff there (I think they have reflective vests so easily identifiable!). ...How to Philosophize with a Hammer

Kane
It isn't. They make that clear to the visitors to the park. The OP did not say the item was collected, but found. I assume (hope) it was left at the site. ...How to Philosophize with a Hammer
