Found in a house clearance in the UK so have absolutely no idea where the fossil originates from.

Hi,

never posted before so please bare with.

Found this fossil in a house clearance (Uk).

It's sandy in colour across the surface and an off white (chalky) colour in exposed areas.

Have included a tape measure in the pics for length (approx 10 inches).

both sides (as shown) are deeply textured and it measures 3.1/4 in depth at its deepest but does taper down. (Hopefully shown in pics).

Would really appreciate some help with this.

PS each "segment" is divided by a very thin, but clear ridge/seam.

Thanks all for your help

Any more info required, I will do my best.

Many thanks.

Not an ironstone nodule ("crocodile skin") but a nice septarian nodule/concretion, because there are propagation cracks filled with crystals forming walls, probably of calcite.

  • 2 weeks later...

thanks for your help guys, much appreciated!

have searched the terms you have given and compared it to many images.

It would seem to be almost certainly a septarian nodule/concretion as suggested.

It makes for an interesting display piece for sure and now I can chat a little about it thanks to you fine people : )
