Dana2
Found some interesting things on the Patomic River this week, but I have no idea what this is. Anyone know? It appears to be a tooth or claw from something? I love finding this stuff!
ynot
Welcome to TFF! It is not a tooth or claw. I think it is a fragment of a vertebra. 1 Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Dana2
Any idea what type of animal the vertebrae came from?
sixgill pete
I agree it is not either tooth or claw. I do agree with Tony that it is bone, but I would like to see better more in focus pictures from all angles. I'm not going to say it is not part of a vertebra, but I am not so sure about that. Good quality pictures, well focused with the object being the center of attention can make the difference of something being positively ID'd or just speculated about. Fossildude19
Also - it would help to know the size of the item. Harry Pristis
It appears to be a zygoma, the part of the skull that projects beneath the eye. Don't know which mammal, though. 1 http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest

ynot
Does not look so much like a vert after all. Thanks for the better pictures. I will leave the rest to those more familiar with anatomy.
