fossiling
On my trip to Florida I went to rucks pit and found some fossils and crystal clusters. If I haven't forgotten they were calcite crystals? But why don't they fizz when I put them in the acid bath? Only the limestone fizzes, I see very little damage to the crystal. PS. The acid bath was citric acid AKA. lemon juice. Keep looking! They're everywhere!
Ludwigia
Either the calcite is very stable and the citric acid too weak, or else you have agate or chalcedony. Try a few drops of diluted muriatic acid on it. Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Roger http://www.steinkern.de/

You will also get a better reaction if You crush a small amount an then put a drop of vinegar on the powder. Have to ask why You are putting acid on the crystals? It will destroy them. The acid bath is mainly to destroy excess limestone. This method was recommended to me by the owner of Rucks pit. Keep looking! They're everywhere! That is probably why He said to use lemon juice. It is strong enough to dissolve the limestone, but too weak to have much effect on the calcite crystals. I would stick with what the man more familiar with the fossils had to say about it. Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough."
