Do not see any fossil here.

It looks like a vein of mineral deposits on the one side.

Can it be cleaned off any?

No the outside is soft but the inside where the white is hard

It looks like a sponge, to me, maybe similar to the comparative picture below.

Yes and no.Poriferan (sponge)identifications are something else indeed ,and the link is to what basically is a site for people non-professionally involved in

paleontology.

I am,of course,NOT saying that every determination there is or could be wrong,BTW.

Just injecting a note of caution.
