Fossildude19
Ah, ... September, ... schools, back in session, ... leaves getting ready to start their changes, ...pumpkin spice ... everything... As summer wanes, we hope that Ma Nature gives us some "Indian Summer" to be able to hunt for and collect our treasures. Get out there while the getting is still good - find that worthy fossil and post it here. "Winter is coming". *********************************** Remember...carefully read the rules below, ... make sure you include all the required information, and submit your fossil! If you have a question about a possible entry, please send me a PM. Please pay special attention to Rule #5: Before and After Preparation photos must be submitted for Prepped specimens not found during the Month of the Contest. In addition to keeping the contest fair, this new qualification will encourage better documentation of our spectacular past finds. Best of success to all, and good hunting!Entries will be taken until midnight on September 30th. Please let us know if you have any questions, and thanks for sharing more of your fossils and research this month. To view the Winning Fossils from past contests visit the Find Of The Month Winner's Gallery. ***********************************Rules for The Fossil Forum's Vertebrate and Invertebrate/Plant Find of the Month Contests 1. You find a great Vertebrate Fossil or Invertebrate/Plant Fossil! Only fossils found by you. NO PURCHASED FOSSILS. 2. Post your entry in the Find of the Month topic. Use a separate post for each entry. (Only two entries per contest category.) 3. Your Fossil must have been found during the Month of the Contest, or most of the significant Preparation of your Fossil must have been completed during the Month of the Contest. 4. You must include the Date of your Discovery (when found in the contest month); or the Date of Preparation Completion and Discovery date (if not found in the contest month). 5. Before and After Preparation photos must be submitted for prepped specimens not found during the Month of the Contest. 6. You must include the common or scientific name. 7. You must include the Geologic Age or Geologic Formation where the Fossil was found. 8. You must include the State, Province, or region where the Fossil was found. 9. Play fair and honest. No bought fossils. No false claims. Shortly after the end of the Month, separate Polls will be created for the Vertebrate and Invertebrate/Plant Find of the Month. In addition to the fun of a contest, we also want to learn more about the fossils. So, only entries posted with a CLEAR photo and that meet the other guidelines will be placed into the Poll. *******Please use the following format for the required information:******* Date of discovery Scientific or Common name Geologic Age or Geologic Formation State, Province, or Region found Photos (if prepped, before and after photos, please.) Photos of the winning specimens may be posted to TFF's Facebook page. Once the Contest Submission period has ended, after all the votes are tallied, and the Polls for both categories are closed, we will know the two winning Finds of the Month for SEPTEMBER - 2017 ! Now, go find your fossil, do your research, and make an entry! 3 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." dylandreiling
I am going to be entering for the first time with this Greenops sp. from the Devonian exposures at Penn Dixie in New York State. I went down to Penn Dixie on August 26th, which was when the bug was found. It was prepped on September 1st by @Malcolmt (for a specimen this rare it was smarter to have an expert do it.) Identity: Greenops Sp. Geologic Age/Formation: Devonian, Windom Shale Location: Penn Dixie fossil site, Hamburg New York. Date Found: Saturday, August 26th 2017. Date Prepped: Friday, September 1st 2017 Here are the before photos. And AFTER.... I really have to hand it over to @Malcolmt for the amazing prep work on this little guy. Hope you all enjoy!

Malcolmt
I just could not let him take a dremel tool to it and by a strange coincidence he happened to be 10 miles from my house with his lovely wife on business. Better yet he had the fossil in his car. Always like it when I get the chance to meet up with people from the forum in person. I have met so many good people through this venue some that I now consider to be friends

Jesuslover340
Guess I'll be the first vertebrate entry I'd like to submit this Pallimnarchus pollens jaw for consideration, found Saturday the 16th in Queensland, Australia; Pleistocene. It's rare enough to find any piece of crocodile from the area; even more rare to find a jaw with an intact tooth! Identity: Pallimnarchus pollens Geologic Age/Formation: Pleistocene (no Formation available) Location: Australia Date Found: Saturday, September 16, 2017 2 "Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another."-Romans 14:

I_gotta_rock
I would like to submit a whole chunk of reef! This foot-long rock, found in Monterey VA in part of the Licking Creek Formation (Devonian), is encrusted with all sorts of little things. It's not any one piece that is amazing so much as the snapshot it creates of the sea floor as it was living. It's not a death plate, it's a life sculpture, silicified as it was so long ago! I'm being a little melodramatic, but it just blows me away! 1 I refuse to give up my childish wonder at the world.

Fossildude19
Nice entries everyone, but Please, ... put the information about your find in the format used by Monica. Identity: Devonalosia wrightorum Geologic Age/Formation: Mid-Devonian, Arkona Formation Location: Hungry Hollow, South Pit near Arkona, Ontario, Canada Date Found: Saturday, September 2, 2017 From the Rules: 6. You must include the common or scientific name.7. You must include the Geologic Age or Geologic Formation where the Fossil was found.8. You must include the State, Province, or region where the Fossil was found. @Fossil Claw @dylandreiling @fossilcrazy @Jesuslover340 @I_gotta_rock Also, some genus names wouldn't hurt, either. It makes it easier to copy and paste when Cris is creating the poll posts, to have that information separated out. Also, please refrain from going off topic on this thread, and posting non FotM candidate fossils here. Start another thread, or shoot someone a PM. Thanks for your cooperation and understanding. RiseOfTheExtinct
I'm new to the whole 'contest' thing. I have just one question. What if the fossils I found were in clusters? I mean, I can always list ones from before last trip. I would have to find out the date... RiseOfTheExtinct Quote "There's no shame in being weird. I'm have the obsession of mollusks.
