Thanks for sharing. This looks like an amazing site!

I assume these are freshwater lake deposits?

I wonder if picture number four depicts chironomid (non-biting midge) larval tubes? They sure look like what I find in modern lake sediments.

Thanks @Darko

Sorry, I think you've told us before, but where are these deposits and how old would they be? Miocene?

I am interested in lake deposits and would love to read any papers published on this site. Sites like this would be a good target for fossil pollen and other microfossils preserved in lake sediments such as diatoms.

Those deposits are in Popovac marlstone mine. I know only that the lake dates from middle miocene.

Thanks @Darko that was enough to start a search. A quick look on my phone revealed three very good papers, free online that give a lot of information of the evolution of this lake.

Ill post links when I get a chance.

From your photos and the papers these seem to be amazing lake deposits with all sorts of plant and animal remains.

Darko, what an amazing site you have. Finding fish, plant material and insects at the same site is mind boggling for me. This is a place where one could develop a world class collection. Amazing!!

I get my rocks off, bulldozers and dirt
