Fossils?
do you guys know any fossil sites in Michigan, I live in the lansing area and places like rockport state park are a bit far. Do you guys know any places closer that I could go to look for a high quantity of fossils and I wouldn't have to drive very far?

crinus
You are in a poor location for fossils in Michigan. Milan, Michigan is probably the closest but you can only get in there in an organized group. Our local club (Ann Arbor) is going in there on Sept. 23rd. There are scattered fossils in the Jackson area but nothing concentrated. You can see some of them on the UMMP michigan fossils database http://www.michiganbasinfossils.org/. Look at the map on this database. The dark gray color tells you that there are lots of fossils in that area. Lansing is a very light gray and that is probably due to the plant stuff at Grand Ledge. Your best bets are Alpena area, Arkona, Ontario, and south in Ohio. Washtenaw Co. is a medium gray and that is due to Milan. We have too much glacial stuff and not enough rock.
