Not entirely sure, I'm still researching the differences.

The research is the fun part i think, however I'm really new and the more complicated identification process. Finding the is the easy part in my area of montana in between 5 and 200 miles all around me are fossils... I'll keep up the research to figure out what it is exactly. Any leads In the right direction are welcome to! Lol.

  • 4 months later...

Curtis,

What a nice find!  And it's great to see someone found one so close to our town.

I have been out to Stratford hill and didn't do so well. I have made some great finds just a ways east of there though. If you want to get together to swap areas/hunt for fossils, I am looking for a rockhound/fossil buddy. I found a large (8 inch)  portion of a nautiloid and lots of clams last fall. I need to get the photographed and shared on the site. I can't wait for it to be dry and warm enough to get out.
