Katt
These are a few finds from our last trip to the beach. But I've never seen or heard of a pink petoskey?
Miocene_Mason
Looks like coral to me, it may have impurities in the replacing mineral that give it a pink appearance. Pretty finds! “...whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been and are being evolved.” ~ Charles Darwin Happy hunting, Mason
ynot
Petoskey stone is a colloquially named lithified coral, found on beaches around the great lakes area. Your rock is a fossil coral (I assume found on a beach in Michigan{?}), therefor it should be a "petoskey stone". I do not know the areas formations, but the color is caused by impurities in the replacement mineral. Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." My Fossil collection - My Mineral collection My favorite thread on TFF.
Katt
Yes, These were found on a northern Michigan beach. But I find them on seasonal roads and riverbeds also.
