Krmcgill
Mg boyfriend found this while working next to a limestone quarry. We aren't sure if it's just a rock or something cool. The edges seem to have been worked by hand to make them sharp. Anyone have any ideas? It's the size of my hand! Thank you!!
ynot
Welcome to TFF! This is a piece of weathered limestone, not a fossil. It has several differing layers and a very nice appearance. Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." My Fossil collection - My Mineral collection My favorite thread on TFF. Fossildude19
I agree, not an artifact or fossil. Layered sedimentary rock. BobWill
I agree but it is an interesting contact between two very different looking layers, maybe rock types, maybe formations or members. Or it may just represent a change in the level of the water that the sediments settled out of. The folks at the quarry may be able to help identify the stratigraphy of the area and help you learn whether looking for fossils there is worthwhile. Plantguy
Yep I agree with Tony, Bob and Rockwood that it is very interesting and cool! Preserved geologic time/layers showing different changing environments. Thanks for showing us. Regards, Chris
