It must have been stinkin' hot down in the pit. I'll take a pass on days like that. Nice edrio but you're missing a few letters. It's an Isorophusella

Nice find, Dom!  Hopefully some cool specimens like the one you found will be left for Viola and I to find when she's able to visit the quarry...in 9 years!!! :P

Well done!

Malcom Thornley @Malcolmtwas nice enough to host Kim Cox @ImmaGrouch and I this past weekend at the JD quarry in Ontario Canada.

We arrived at about 7:40 and left around 4:30 on Saturday.  On Sunday Kim and I went back and hunted from about 7:30 to about 12:30. It was in the high 80's to 90 degrees up top and 15 to 20 degrees hotter down in the Quarry.  Saturday was hard work collecting.  Digging and splitting rock.  Sunday we did mostly surface collecting.

Here are some photos of the Quarry.

Nice site pics! Brings back memories :) . It definitely pushes the mercury way up at the bottom of that quarry with no breeze and full sun!

The pygidium of either a achetella achates or a calyptaulux callicephalus—will know better after prep.

A plate with two Isotelus gigas found by Malcom. Malcom was kind enough to let me take it home to prep.

Great finds! I think this last image are examples of Prasopora

Thank you.

Looked them up on line. That's exactly what they look like.

Btw. Still interested in the trade just got to busy before the trip.

Looks like you had a successful trip! Thanks for the site photos. The memories are flooding back. I sure hope that the area by the pool is active when I come over next year.

That pair of gigas (2 1/2) actually) will be a tough prep very thin skinned. If they were an easy prep I may very well not have given them to you (lol). Was a very good day hunting with good people. I came away with 4 pleurocystites and a somewhat rare amphilichas cephalon. It certainly was a hot day down in the pit. I suspect it was well over 95.....

I was thinking I might just hit them with Vinac and see how well they show.  If they look good that way I might not even try to prep them. OR wait a year or so for when I have a better feel for air abrasion. Depends on how brave I feel once I get a dust collector hooked up.

It was close to 90 degree up top and felt 15 or more degrees hotter down in the pit so I would agree that it had to be over 95..Definately the hottest two days of hunting I have have done.

  • 1 year later...

Finally got around to doing some prep on the  Edrioasreoid 5c720907886a1_Collage2019-02-2321_59_34.thumb.jpg.f5e33de455574cefd00982b1e27eb353.jpgSophusella incondita.

Top is after air abrasion.
