Shellseeker
Satisfying my fossil gene by sorting ziploc bags of old finds. When I am busy hunting (3-4 times a week) , I just dump lots of finds without looking too closely. That gives me the joy of discovery even when I can not go hunting. Here is a group photos of some small one that intrigue me. I am some what lazy and have not take small pictures of all these little one, but selected the one that seems to be a claw core. It is 1.25 x .6 inches. Hopefully others have found similar ones in the Peace River. I seems to have a denser core just sticking out in the 3rd photo down. Shellseeker
Usually when I put a fossil up for ID, I follow up with a bunch of searching. This claw core is unusual in that it is more clearly made up of Keratin layers and seems to have a harder center core. In searching for similar stuff, I found a ebay offer of an Armadillo claw core, which looks very similar, but there were many other Armadillo claws that looked different. The obvious other choice would be turtle spur... of which I have found MANY. This one just does not LOOK the same as others I have found. The texture of the spur, the obvious keratin layers, the central core. I do not discount that this might be a turtle spur, but would like input from others who have found fossil turtle spurs on whether they have one that looks similar... In the meantime, I'll throw in a shark tooth from the above group... The one on the left is a Bull or Dusky. What is the broken one? Remember .. Megs are common in my hunting grounds.
