Creek Walk

Recommended Posts

Mitchu

Took a walk in a creek before I had to leave for out of town. No digging required on this trip, the rains from Irma made for a fun day, plus I was recovering from a shoulder injury. There's a few more pics from this trip in my Gallery. Came out of the creek with a few angys, a nice ray plate, smaller megs, mako, and a horse tooth. Also found a bone that i'm not sure as to what it is. All in all a great day for a walk.large.20170918_134525.jpg.2aa3971c1ae8b3bfcee89aa2ff0659d6.jpglarge.20170918_104907.jpg.950aca4df2f3aead5a149e3e90efb6ac.jpg

I am thinking that would be one large bird, but who knows. @Auspex may be able to shed some light on it if it is bird.

Hi there ... I know the creeks in the area have tons of deer.  Is it fossilized ? I sometimes find modern deer material stained by the creek.  Found a hoof core a few weeks ago.  You look like you have there a phalanges .. ie. knuckle bone from a deer.  Fossilized or not ... You can buy them online ! ... modern of course.  There are good examples floating around here on the forum.

@Harry Pristis has some great images on the forum of deer material from Florida .... below are examples of modern First Proximal Phalanx Bones.

Think we found our culprit! It definately appears to be fossilized. Thanks for the ID!

Thanks for the images .. the Angustidens finds definitely had me drooling.  Those colors are fantastic, and the preservation was great.

Cheers,

B
