Brittle Star Posted October 4, 2017 Share Posted October 4, 2017 Hello, This is my first post of this forum and I would like to show you some of my unidentified macro plant spores and vertebrate remains found in residue from fallen bits of plant debris bed picked up at Yaverland IOW, photos were taken under AmScope USB microscope, hope you like them. Still to experiment with the Toupview stacking software, watch this space. The Albaneretontid jaw holds nine teeth, this is the one I hope to get my stacking software working on. I have thrown in a close up of a termite coprolite apparently they have not changed in shape (hexagonal) for 75 million years. These are so abundant in the plant debris bed residue you end up ignoring them after a while. The rest I have not identified yet and are actually mega spores I believe. Also I found a tiny insect wing on the surface of some Bembridge limestone and a section of reed from a different piece. This is why the Isle of Wight is such a special place for me. Brittle Star Posted October 4, 2017 Author Share Posted October 4, 2017 Thank you for the encouragement, spores are pretty flat, jaws not so much, hope to post more micro stuff I do draw the line at bacteria not going to go that small. As micro/macro (where to draw the line) fossils are specialised it is really difficult to ID the things though, not much information on line either. Watch out for my Oxford Clay stuff. My meaning of 'not much on line' is if you search for fossil spores, mega spores, etc you do get some photos and web sites to help but not as many 'helpful' images and information as say ammonites or gastropods, more people know about those than micro fossils, I do have copies of some papers which help for one or two of what I have, it is still difficult to definitely say that what you see on a page is what you have in real life. Would love to find a book on the subject it would make life easier. If you can point me in the right direction any help would be much appreciated. Brittle Star Posted October 4, 2017 Author Share Posted October 4, 2017 Thank you for the pdf link, I see pollen, interesting, will read it later, I do not think I go down to pollen magnification with my setup, I have to be able to pick stuff up with my tweezers, they are very fine and great for my use, get mine from a model boat shop in Cornwall, I do not think I have seen pollen at all, maybe I have but not recognised it for what it is. I have got this pdf, which shows a few of the spores I think I have and it is about the area I collected from. Do not like to name my photos until I am really sure, but I will give it a go.
