Fossildude19
Welcome to the Forum. Please tell us where this was found - state, county, city if possible. You will need to take a better, in focus, well lit picture, with a ruler or tape measure for scale. I suggest placing it on a flat surface, in daylight, and taking pictures of the top, bottom, and sides - perpendicular to the item. (Holding in hand tends to make for more blur to the photo. ) Regards, 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." Harry Pristis
Avoid the holding-in-hand blur by resting the hand on a stable surface like a table top. 1 http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest
fifbrindacier
I agree with what was previously said. And when you take your photos, prefer using the zoom than putting your camera near the piece, it's easier to adjust the focus. Haravex
Is very blurry but reminds me of a sand dollar again until additional photos are posted it is not possible to make a positive identification.
Bailey
I'll get better pictures and post them. I have 3 of these egg like things and I'm curious if anyone could tell me what they are. The bigger ones I found in a yard in Kansas, and the smaller one u found on the bank of bull shoals lake in northwest Arkansas.
ynot
It looks like a concretion to Me. There is no detail to identify it as a fossil. Pictures from other angles may change this opinion. ynot
Has the shape of an echinoid (sea urchin) but no details. Could be a poorly preserved or covered with incrustations. Wait for more opinions on this. 1 Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." Bailey
How can I put up more than one picture? 5 minutes ago, Bailey said:
ynot
There is a 3.95 megabyte limit per post. You should be able to add more in the reply section. If that fails refresh the page. KimTexan
I believe it is a calcerous concretion. It looks like there is something in the center of the first pic. It could possibly be of chert and sandstone. This link gives examples of concretions and explains them some. https://www.priweb.org/outreach.php?page=Edu_Prog/earth101/concreations I haven't spent time around Bull Shoals area, but I've spent quite a bit of time a bit south of there, also to the north and west of there. I have seen many concretions in all the places I've been. Mostly chert and iron sandstone in nature. I got about a dozen of them from Fayetteville area, but they are darker and have iron in them. KimTexan
Here are pictures of 2 of mine. The first is quite heavy. Feels like it must weigh 6-7 pounds. There's a shot from the top and the side.I've got some 2-3 times the size of that one. The 3rd pic is of a tiny one I found that I thought was so cute. fifbrindacier
Bailey, yours could be concretions, but also worn urchins as Tony and Haravex suggested, but without better close ups that would be difficult to tell. Try to photography them on a table. For your photos, you can try to crop them, their size would be more suitable for the 3,95 megabyte limit. Regards, Sophie.
