Bill in AZ
Hello - I'm new to this forum. I appreciate any information that you ladies and gents could provide! Thank you in advance! I've had this object all my life - I found it in Northern California when I was a child. I always thought it looked like a walnut. Perhaps it is, or perhaps it's just an unusual rock. It is rock-like in terms of its weight & feel. The middle "band" goes all the way around - similar to the band that seperates the two halves of a walnut. Thanks! Macrophyseter
Welcome to the forum! I think this looks like a iron concretion. Unfortunately, due to the shape of some spherical forms (there are many forms of iron concretions) and the next layer inside some of them also resembling to be spherical and different from the "shell" (Like edible part of an actual nut), they have been commonly mistaken for fossil nuts. If you're a fossil nut from Palos Verdes, San Pedro, Redondo Beach, or Torrance, feel free to shoot me a PM!
