Shark teeth at Hungry Hollow

TRM

Recommended Posts

Found the teeth today at Hungry Hollow.  In decades of fossil hunting in the area, I have never seen evidence of sharks.  The teeth seem modern and could have been left there.  The stratum is Devonian based upon my simple understanding. Did sharks coexist with the coral, brachiopods, crinoids and occasional trilobite that are commonly found here?

Nope, someone left those there. These look like Miocene / Pliocene teeth.

Yeah, sadly someone salted the area likely by accident, possibly while clearing a bucket. Cool find regardless. :)

Very few chondricthyians at that point in time, somebody wanted to be confusing!

Welcome to TFF!

I agree that Your teeth are planted and not from that area. However, there were sharks in the devonian, but there dentition looked much different than modern sharks teeth do. (oldest shark known is early devonian).

Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough."

They must have fallen out of the Shark Tooth Fairies bag while cruising over Kona! :meg:

Pretty cool finds though!
