Think this is a tooth fragment.  Found in the Rico Formation near Potash, UT which is just outside of Moab, UT.  1 1/4" x 1/2".

If it is Pennsylvanian, I would think that it could be a cusp from a shsrk tooth, such as Glikmanius (formerly known as Cladodus. If Permian, not sure but probably from a reptile or amphibian. Sorry, i know that is really vague.

I see how you could think it was a tooth with the shape, but I agree with bone fragment as well. Teeth are not so porous as bone. They are more highly calcified and present with enamel or ivory.

Could the fragment have moved from a higher level? I've been to Potash, and there are some rather spectacular slopes in the vicinity.

Context is critical.
