Post Oak Creek fossil ID

Ok so you put quotes when the ID isn’t definitive? I wasn’t aware of that. That’s good to know.

So far I’ve found at least 3 species of oysters in the same spot, but I think there may actually be 1-2 more that I haven’t posted yet to ask questions about. The oysters were prolific little critters!

I used quotation marks as an indication that taxonomic opinions seem to differ.

Pseudoperna is a frequently ocurring(-/iconic?) bivalve, which might have a slightly uncertain taxonomic foundation, but maybe I'm totally wrong.

Ostreids are a taxonomical nightmare

One bivalve taxonomists seems to have put it like this(paraphrasing here):

"If all bivalves were oysters,I'd probably kill myself"

The meaning of quotes around a species name is not normally recognized in the paleontological community. It is better to use qualifying words such as: possibly; might be; etc. Also you can say that there are more that one recognized genus names or that the genus name is unsettled.

My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned.
