Post Oak Creek Today! Sherman, Texas Shark Teeth

I spent the morning screening in the Post Oak Creek of Sherman, Texas today. I found lots of small shark teeth...all different types. Tooth enamel from Mastodon/Mammoth and bits and pieces.

Nice! I love the elephant enamel and the Ptychodus are my favorite shark teeth. You had a good day. :)

I love the Ptychodus, too! As far as the enamel....it makes my day anytime I find some. Even if it’s a small piece! :D

Very nice! I'm planning a trip out there, mind if I ask what you did to find these? Anything in particular, or just screening in the stuff in the creek?

I think I see part of a crab in there. Second photo from the bottom, right above the 2 1/4" mark on the ruler, looks like the 'thumb' off a crab claw.

And what is that cool double-ended tooth slightly above and to the right of it? Looks like two teeth fused at the base, it's wild.

I just took some closeups of that little find, and it does appear to be a tiny crab claw “thumb”! Thank you for noticing that!!! Does anyone here know what type of crab?

I go in right at the bridge through town in Sherman. I don’t even know the name of the street. I’m sure someone here does. I do some screening, but today I just plopped myself on the ground and picked through the gravel.

Time well spent. You never know when you will pull out a find of a lifetime there.

Good pickins you came out with.

Tell me what size screen mesh were you using?

Thank you!! :D I was using 1/4 inch screen. It works well! It holds the tiny ones while discarding the fines. I also get on the ground in the dry areas and pick through the pebbles.

@JarrodB Thank you!!! Hope you had a great weekend! :D:meg:

Good choice.

Scootching along on the gravel bars is how most of us start out.

The bars have gotten much smaller over the past 30+ years.

I guess so many people are scooping up all those teeth that the bars are dwindling. :headscratch:

I take greeners there to teach them how to find stuff and

have never gone there and come out disappointed.

Sulphur river yeah, but not post Oak.
