Last Saturday I found an interesting looking bone in  the quarry Kromer near Holzmaden (Lower Jurassic).

Its about 4 cm long and extremely thin. Because of that I would say that I have found a bone of a pterosaur. But that would be a rare find at a place where you can find mainly marine fossils.

(A friend of mine found some bones and even two pterosaur teeth "recently").

So can somebody confirm that idea or have another idea? Thanks for your help :1-SlapHands_zpsbb015b76:

More prep would help to decide for sure. ;)

Nice find, Sebastian! :D

It's a real mystery. Something you surely do not want to pursue as it will only end up taking you down dark, twisted alleyways and late night "dead drops". I suggest you send it to me and I will accept the risk that is inherent with finding bones in the wild. ;)

Interesting find. It may need more prep before it can be accurately ID'd.

Thanks ! I think you are right. Too bad that I dont have the tools to prep it ^_^

Thanks TIm !

A jaw was also one of my first suggestions but the picture may be a bit irritating. The things you marked arent teeth ...

Nonetheless a jaw seems to be a possible solution.

Sorry I can't help other than to suggest you take it to the Hauff museum for appraisal.

Thanks Roger ! Maybe I will do that ...

The rock immediately around the bone looks quite hard, but you could maybe use something like a scalpel to scrape some of it away.

A little update:

A friend of mine prepped it for me and after the prep a kinda funny combination out of a fish bone and a very rare pterosaur bone became visible.

The fish bone is the bigger one (5 cm long) and is lying on the top of the pterosaur bone.
As these are marine deposits you can imagine how rare the pterosaur bone is :):P
