Prehistoric bone reconstructive surgery?

If it is indeed bone, it would most likely be a worn joint which need to be round and smooth for proper movement. Evolution is very good at what it does most of the time, and sometimes it likes things perfect.

Definitely bone or shell (turtle) That I know. Given the location and porous nature. It matches all other bones found. The line you see on the third photo down, right side, makes me think turtle however the other turtle pieces I have found are thinner. Thank you for lookin at it. The “threads” are what I found most interesting and confusing. Maybe it is just a weird joint!

The photos do make it look like rock though. Lighting was hard to get right

Any idea where these marks came from? They are perfectly round

Very nice find!  This item appears to be a partial cetacean periotic bone -- part of a bone in the inner ear of a whale.  The concentric grooves are the coiling of the cochlear canal.

I can see that. Would also explain the odd appearance of the "bone".

I do like per mammas.:dinothumb:

That's a nice find, to find a cochlea bone in a so good state of preservation is a luck, because it is a very fragile and very thin bone.
