Any idea of wood fossil value?

Recommended Posts

Hello there,

as in the title -does anybody knows if it's valuable or not?

The certification centre told me that in their opinion its even 300mln years old+ but to state that they would have to run some expensive tests.

Its most probably digged up from 100 meters under the ground in Syberia.

Thanks for any help.

We don't do appraisals but polished petrified wood is valuable and thin slabs can go for hundreds of dollars.  Try doing searches on the web to see if you can find similar items.  Your slabs look beautiful.

Hello and Welcome to the Forum. :)

As stated in our Forum Rules and Community Standards:

"Please understand that The Fossil Forum cannot appraise the commercial value of a fossil; this is beyond what can be done through pictures on the internet, so please don't ask."

They are very beautiful slabs...but I'm a little confused.  I was under the impression that C-14 dating was only useful for samples that are about 50,000 years old or less.  I find it hard to fathom how a lab could obtain a date of 250,000,000 years BP for that wood even using accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS)!

C-14 dating is not possible beyond about 100000years, so this certificate is bogus and the fossil was not tested in any kind of laboratory.

The certificate is totally phony.  As others have said, you cannot use C-14 to date anything older than about 50,000 years and it costs about 700 dollars here in the USA to get one date.  So don't believe it.  Therefore, I would be unwilling to believe anything else these people told me.
