Fossil tooth ID

Hello!  I won these two teeth from an auction and I am curious as to what they may be.  It was listed as a fossil hyena tooth and a smilodon (which I do not believe given the location of the find and anatomy of the tooth, although it does have serrations).  Any help would be appreciated =)

The teeth are said to come from the Gansu Province, China.

Dimension:
1st: 7.3 x 1.9 x 1.2 cm
2nd: 4.6 x 1.3 x 0.8 cm

I think your looking at some bear teeth, not sure what types of bear live in China though (other than panda, which is a possibility).

I think they are closer to large felids (probably Panthera tigris) than bear's teeth, as bear's canine has a more developed root and forms a strong curve near the base of the lingual face of the tooth (crown).

I would say that the larger of the two is at least a big cat tooth (I won't speculate a species). Harry may be able to shed more light, but the archives here on TFF are a wonderful resource as well.

Late Miocene mammal fossils have been found in Gansu Province.  The larger tooth looks like a lower canine; the smaller one looks like an incisor.  Hyenas were more diverse in the Late Miocene and in that area but I would also lean toward large cat for those specimens.  Try to find some figures of Machairodus (large sabercat of the time) teeth to compare with your specimens.  If not a good match, look at the cheetah from there and the medium-sized hyena(s).
