Possible Petrified Wood With Bug Tunnels

FossilExplorer

Recommended Posts

Hello. My first time posting here. I am a new member. I found this today in Southern Florida. Does anyone have insight as to what this may be?

It is over 1 pound. I do not have a scale at the moment. Very hard and distinctive impressions that appear to be bug related.

Wow. Do you see the face too? Really unique.

Kindly.

Stephanie

Welcome to the forum from Maryland! I agree with @ynot

P.s. I see the faces as well.

Can you post a picture of the ends looking directly facing the holes?

Sure. Thanks everyone so far for your help!. I did further research. I came up with petrified palm wood. Thank you again! Hope the photo helps more.

As I said before it is a tube worm colony, not petrified wood or palm.

It doesn't look like palm wood.  My first thoughts were marrow channels from interior of bone, that's why I wanted pictures of the end.

I have seen quite a bit of palm wood and have never seen any with open holes like that.

You guys are great! I found it in a swampy area where gators can be found. Just surface was showing. Is it old? Are they common? I really like the "vibes" I get from it.

Florida has a lot of fossil areas that range in age from early to late Cenozoic era.

We would need a more accurate location to tell how old it could be.

That type of animal is also extant (still lives in modern oceans).

It was found at Halipatokee State Park.

Now You just need to wait for some of the Florida members to chime in with an age of that area.:thumbsu:
