Fossils in Athens, Greece

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! I was wondering if anyone knows of any shops in Athens that sell fossils or if there are collecting sites that I’m able to visit (assuming it’s ok to take them back home). We’re spending our Christmas holiday in Athens and I would love a little fossil souvenir from there if possible. Thanks!

Hello, I already been in Greece, and that's very difficult in terms of fossils...

South of Athens , near cape Sounio there are minerals.

And all over the country, lots of archeological sites !

Thanks for the info! I figured it would be difficult to collect there, but I wasn’t sure.

Hi

Notwithstanding the local laws which might be somewhat intricate down there , Greece has (had?) some nice Triassic outcrop towards Epidauros . At least one musem for that . I believe digging in the records of TFF would yield some results .... Otherwise google should produce interesting things too .
