Hydrogen peroxide OK on sea urchin?

Recommended Posts

I'd like to whiten a fossil sea urchin.  Is hydrogen peroxide effective and harmless?  I'm thinking 3%... any tips?

Not sure if is going to "whiten" your fossil, it tends to work well at assisting the cleaning process with stubborn matrix in crevices. I use whatever the over the counter percentage is on teeth and other such pieces with no problems experienced.  Why do you want to whiten it?

I don’t think it will whiten what is effectively rock. H2O2 is basic so will bleach things like modern bone.

The urchin has some stains on it, I wanted to remove.  Thinking about making it into a necklace.
