Crazyhen
These two well preserved tortoise are from Gansu, China. I am not sure about what species they are.

ynot
That is a nice fossil! Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." Tidgy's Dad
That is gorgeous! Though the cracks are clearer, one can still clearly see the sutures between the scutes, even the nuchal scute is quite clear, the little one at the front between the first two marginals. Growth lines clearly in evidence, particularly on the costal scutes. Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.
oilshale
Are you sure it is from Gansu? I thought they are from the Lantian Region, Shaanxi Province (Shaanxi is the neighboring province). Testudo sp. http://paleoglot.org/files/Chow_78.pdf Be not ashamed of mistakes and thus make them crimes (Confucius, 551 BC - 479 BC).
Harry Pristis
Extraordinary preservation! The nuchal bone is typically diagnostic to species (I have no experience with Chinese tortoises). http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest
Peace river rat
Granted, I am far from expert, but the first thing I thought was reproduction, it's just so...perfect. That being said, again I know very little about that. I am likely mistaken, and it is an exquisite fossil! I dig in the river and have no experience with an entire animal preserved. Never dug in mines or rock.
steelhead9
Wow! I have seen lots of these tortoises and have never seen one with a skull. The skull is composited and I don’t know enough about tortoises to tell if it is the right species. Still Life Fossils
Crazyhen
It should be collected from He Zheng of Gansu. You know a lot of mammals and other animals’ fossil were discovered there and it’s termed He Zheng formation. Another nicely preserved specimen below.
