Cen Tex Cephalopod

I found this a couple weeks ago the same day as the Petalodus that I already posted. It was in Brown County near Lake Brownwood in the Penn deposits. These are pretty common around here but usually about half this long or smaller. Found this before to much of it had eroded away.

I didn’t know that there are orthocones from Texas that are this big and 3 dimensional. Thanks for sharing!

Bulldozers and dirt Bulldozers and dirt
behind the trailer, my desert
Them red clay piles are heaven on earth
I get my rocks off, bulldozers and dirt

Very nice piece.

Have You reattached parts?

Yes I am sorry for the delayed response. Yes it was in a dozen or so pieces but still articulated when found, cleaned then super glue

That is a nice complete orthocone! I enjoy finding orthocones like these when I go fossil hunting.

Here is one of my complete ones and it comes from late Ordovician shales of Toronto (Treptoceras crebiseptum):

Those two look like they could have come from the same deposit, but they don't even come from the same system (period) or even consecutive ones!

Wow! I am impressed. I either find massive chunks or tiny, minuscule fragments of these guys down here in Ohio.
Again, Really nice!!

That's fabulous! Were the pieces contiguous, or were they spread out down the slope and you had to find them?
