PalaeoArt
Hi, I recently got hold of this 1" premaxillary tooth which was found in the Judith River Formation, Montana. Could any of the local expects confirm whether this is Albertosaurus? Thanks in advance
Troodon
You cannot distinguish between Campanian age Tyrannosaurid species especially with pre-maxillary teeth. Having said that Albertosaurs is currently not known from Judith River Formation age deposits. Although there are no Tyrannosaurids described from the Judith, Gorgosaurus and Daspletosaurus is known from equivalent faunas in Alberta and its probably one of those two species. Very nice tooth by the way.
