Not sure about this one. It is from Neuse River in NC. I have eocene and cretaceous material from this site. Scale is in mm. Thanks.

Yes, that looks like an Ischyrhiza oral tooth.  I have seen fossils from the Neuse before - a site around Goldsboro.  A collector once informed me that the river is polluted so not too many people go there.  That was years ago.  Is the water quality better these days?

I agree with Ischyrhiza mira for the tooth. I always hear horrible stories about poor water quality in various streams around the country but I think people like to exaggerate and make up stories. Kinston is downstream from Goldsboro and they get part of their drinking water from the Neuse. I swim in the Neuse and Tar Rivers and have never had a problem. I always avoid rivers after floods, that’s when nasty stuff gets washed into them.

I agree also, Ischyrhiza. I have several from this site. I spend lots of time in the Neuse and I only have three eyes.

Thanks guys. I have a new scope I am playing around with and I have lots of unknown teeth  from different sites that I hope to get a positive ID on. I hope to be busy on here next few days. Waters I am not too familiar with I always keep my head above and wrap up open wounds.

I agree with Don. I have been swimming in the Neuse my whole life and I have ten fingers and eleven toes.
