Ptychodus day at the creek

Hit the creek for a while. It has been hit pretty hard since the rains a week ago and the holiday traffic. Found the usual potpourri of pieces and parts and found four very worn Ptychodus right off the bat. Luck changes as I work my way up the gravel bar. Found several nice P. whipplei including the largest I have ever found just over an inch wide. Found a beautiful small P. mortoni and a sweet complete S. raphiodon. I also found what at first looked like a Ptychodus shard but when I got home and cleaned it up, I believe it is a small piece of coprolite. Weather couldn’t have been better. 60 degrees but creek was still frozen solid in shady areas. Had the place to myself the entire time. Still looking to add a couple new species to the collection. So far five down.

What no vertebrae?

I assume the creek being Post Oak.

The embedded coral is indicative of that wash. (I have found two different species of coral there)

Nice pty teeth some fine definition on a couple of them.

I noticed that some people have the eye skill to see the pty teeth and some people,

you practically have to point to it for them to see them.

We met there several months ago, like to get out with ya some time.

Sundays are usually my chosen days when I do get to go. Normally I hang around with  lady collector.

She would probably accompany me, but like i stated previously on a Sunday.

That is hers and my days off from work.

Have a goodun.

Would love to. I don’t get out there as much as I used to with travel for work and son not too keen on cold weather days. Usually only get to sneak an hour in on a weekday evening after work. I will pm you when I have a free Sunday.

It has been many years (30+) since I first came across Post Oak back then it was nothing to find 200+ complete teeth in a few hours of crawling around.

My last trip netted 120+, most with damage though. They filled a laboratory test tube and I donated it as a door prize at a treasure club meeting.

The branching coral outcropping, at one time, was as large as a Volkswagen.

I'm on the forum practically every morning so I'll keep an eye open for a PM.

There is usually several people, when weather is nice, on Sundays and I have met several TFF members there.

Later.... Jess B.

Love the Ptychodus. Wish we could find them here in N.C.

Would love to have been there back then. I find a lot of teeth every visit, but complete are few and far between.

Ha, here we go

Well, @sharko69 I find your Ptychodus teeth, among your other finds, to have a semblance marked by especial pulchritude, so much that I am actually awestruck with the most intense envy capable of being felt by a mere moral of flesh and bone.

Thank you. They are some of my favorite teeth to find. Still have a lot left on the bucket list to find.
