If you can give us a bit closer look, perhaps more pixels, it wouldn't hurt. But I think it's a concretion. Sort of septarian looking.

This actually looks like a misshapen, weathered/melted  golf ball, to me. :unsure:

I'm feeling better about these Maine winters just imagining the heat it took. :)

You can cook bacon and eggs on asphalt in some days in Texas, however up north you can make ice cream without ice in the winter...
