Poebrotherium has a narrower tooth with sharp points on the lingual side, and a more complex enamel-dentine pattern. Until heavily worn there is an open inclined B-shape in the middle of the crown formed by the enamel. There is no enamel in the middle of the lower teeth on a Mesohippus.
