Tiny calyx ?

Rockwood

Recommended Posts

I found this the other day, in the cab of my pickup, while looking for ski wax. I often pick things like this out of the gravel I'm shoveling during the fall.

The bulk of this material is Devonian marine rock. Bits of plant do show up now and then.

Agreed. Plates is a bit strong, but I needed a title.

The pattern seems to originate from two separate points that look like they could be weathered pyrite.

Could this be the sort of thing that is the cause of pyrite disease ?

We see what we want to see.

But to me it looks like the imprint of a shell.
