Big ammonite found in Whitby

Hi all

I found a large piece of an ammonite at Whitby, the whole thing would of been more than a foot across.

Would be great if I could get what species of ammo it is.

Thanks for looking.

There is a size limit of 4mb per post that may be your issue

Not sure why the file is smaller at around 3.6 mb it says uploading then when the bar goes full it just says upload failed so not sure why.

Its weird I uploaded some pictures the other day with no issues.

Thanks Alex

There seems to be a glitch in the new software update. Many are having trouble uploading pictures.

The administration is aware of the problem and is working on it.

Please bear with Us.

Looking forward to seeing the find. How was Whitby? Very wet and windy in this weather I'd imagine.

Yes but that's normal for Whitby most of the year lol,  but i absolutely love Whitby. Although I feel a little bad as I had to relocate the crab living on the back of the piece of ammonite.

It is an issue with the resolution not with the amount (size limit) of the pictures which might be uploaded to the server, in my understanding. Reducing the resolution you can upload your photos at this time. :)

A service request has been put in with our provider. We can't provide a timeline, but it should be resolved relatively shortly. Keep an eye on this thread for updates:

Strange. I had no problem uploading photos just 15 hours ago.

This problem is not affecting all users. There are some intermittent issues at the moment, including some members not being able to get on the server.

  • 3 weeks later...

Does not look like an ammonite to Me.

Looks like a limestone with shell cross sections and mineral veins.

Pictures of the other sides may change this opinion.

Here is mine, it is 10", cleaned up a bit but pretty much as I found it, you only see the sutures if they are well worn, cheers, Alan.
