Here we have the winner of the 2017 invertebrate fossil of the year: @FossilDudeCO's Damselfly from the Eocene Green River Formation of Lincoln County, Wyoming! This fossil represents not just a new species, not just a new genus, but an entirely new family of damselfly. This little beauty managed to get over half of all the votes in a contest with 12 incredible invertebrate fossils.

Congratulations @FossilDudeCO

Congrats Blake ! To add a new family to the science has to be a big enjoyment, a very attractive dragonfly of an exceptional preservation.

Way to go, Blake!

There were some truly envious fossils in this contest but this one has a great story (and it's a beautiful fossil).

Cheers.

Congrats on the fantastic find and win! I don’t remember the last time that I heard of a new Family being discovered in any Phylum! An aesthetically pleasing and very scientifically important find, the best of both worlds.

By the way, on my iPhone the images are stretched but on my laptop they are normal. Is this happening to anyone else?
