The winner of the 2017 vertebrate fossil of the year goes to... @jcbshark's incredible Giant Tortoise (Hesperotestudo) Foot and Associated Osteoderms from the Pleistocene of Sarasota County, Florida! This was a hard fought contest with a lot of incredible fossils, but this emerged the clear winner after well over 100 members cast their votes.

Congratulations @jcbshark:yay-smiley-1:DD7EEABD-B648-4F10-801A-AC237BC8516D.jpeg

Thank you all On the congratulations. I’m ecstatic to have won this tough race for FOTY with so many awesome finds. I was truly shocked that it did so well in October’s contest being that turtle in general is a pretty common find here and in other place as well but other than some pieces of shell that would fit together I haven’t come across any other articulated pieces of them here. As a matter of fact this is only the 4 th example I’ve found here that I would say definitely goes to one animal. Thanks again to everyone who participated, it’s truly an honor :D

Every once in a great while it's not just a big rock down there!

Awesome Jeff. What an amazing find. The variety of what you find in your little part of Florida never ceases to amaze me.

I get my rocks off, bulldozers and dirt
