Hey Kim I just go by trial and error with the Austin group. I don’t look or find much there but just look on occasion and try to get lucky.

Type in the formation name into Google Scholar to find papers that describe the formation and members. Better yet type in formation name plus Geolex which will take you to a USGS site that gives an overview of most US formations and a summary of the best liturature.
