JarrodB
Weather was beautiful so I took a long 7 mile hike with my buddy at The North Sulphur River Texas. We mainly found footprints but we had a good time. Here's my finds of the day. The large piece of Protostega carapace was my favorite find. 7 mile hike in hip boots and sticky mud probably equals 10 mile hike. lol
Tidgy's Dad
Tha ammonites are pretty nice, too. Glad you had a good day. Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.
Darktooth
Where did you find the strange looking guy next to the truck? I like Trilo-butts and I cannot lie.

ynot
Sounds like a fun day. Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." KimTexan
You have a few decent finds there. What is the piece below the carapace? I found my first Pachydiscus ammonite and T. springer springer as well as a large Durania rudist fragment too. I was so excited to find them, but especially the Pachydiscus. I haven’t found a rudist like that before. I found this, but didn’t extract it. I don’t do a good job of extracting that sort of thing and they fall into like 20 pieces by the time I’m done with it. It was at least 10 inches across. You are right about the mud. My feet kept sinking into it ankle deep or more. I had to be very careful of where I stepped to not sink deeper than that. It definitely makes for a longer, more tiring walk. I think I walked about 5 miles, but it felt like a lot more. I was so worn out before I even got back to my car. It was such a beautiful day though. I did run into a group of 4 people. Two of which were from Tyler. The other 2 I knew from DPS meetings. KimTexan
Just now, JarrodB said: Some fish bone. I'm from Tyler also. Yes I think you told me that at some point or another. That’s why I mentioned it. It was a man in his late 60s maybe with a teenage girl. I didn’t get their names.

oldtimer
Nice finds Jarrod. The Ammonite is a nice one. Totally understand about the mud. Been there before. Kim that is a very nice Ammonite. I would find it hard to not excavate it but understand not wanting to brake it up. But you have a great picture of the find.
Monica
Is the dark specimen in the middle a baculite? Love it!!!

Believe it or not that pic is taken through about 6 inches of water. The water, when flowing is so clear there. I did provide a TFF member who lives near NSR the exact location of the scaphyties ammonite. I’m not sure if he made it out there to collect it though. I live about an hour away so I couldn’t just run back out there to try to excavate it more properly. @Monica Baculites are very common out there. The trick is finding an unbroken one. This is one I found last weekend, a week ago.
oldtimer
Kim, that is some very clear water. I did not know the NSR was so clear. I would assume that being under water would make extraction pretty hard. But thumbs up for referring it to a TFF member.
