Eurypterid

I was considering getting this nice eurypterid fossil head. I know it's just the head, but the price is insanely low and I like the definition of the eyes. But for some reason the eyes feel a bit toooo perfect. The fossil is reportedly un-restored and is from Ukraine.

Looks like it's been molded from cement!

I think this may be right. No prepwork can dig into a stone like that.

Here is a quick follow-up for the naysayers.  Check the ebay current and completed 'Eurypterus' listings.

There are a bunch of these Baltic specimens available with better preservation for auction at $7-10 USD.

Anyone not familiar with these fossils should take the time to get educated before declaring "Fake Fossil".

The anatomy looks correct. I'd say either real or a cast or a real fossil.

No one is manufacturing replica casts of these fossils when better preserved specimens are readily available for $7-$10 USD.

Evidently, the OP is working with a reliable seller.  To believe otherwise stretches logic and common sense to a new extreme.

Fair enough. I'm not that familiar with Eurypterid fossils, but I figured since the anatomy looks right, so at least I thought it wouldn't be a sculpture.

There is a bridge that you can have at an insanely low price.

Hey, what's the lowest you'll go on the bridge? I've been wanting one for quite a while.

In My defence, I only said it did not look right to Me. Then I asked for the expert to comment.

I never declared it a fake.

I wasn't addressing anyone specifically.  My statement is a rebuttal to the cacophony of chatter that arises in these 'fake fossil' debates.

Your response was perfectly reasonable.

You had doubt but were interested to hear feedback from anyone who was more familiar with these fossils.

Unfortunately, erroneous conclusions followed by agreement from others are a disservice to future viewers.

Oh good, it is offered from the gentleman from Georgia. I was hoping to have to pay to have it hauled across the entire country.

How bout I just do a 1-4-1 trade. I've got one that is a nice "Golden" color I'm not using anymore.
