eannis6
Hello all! So, I recently took a trip to the Aurora Fossil museum in NC. I hunted for some teeth while there, and truly enjoyed the exhibits as well. I found nearly a 3 inch fragment of a meg. The main reason I was there, however, was because I was told that to get my little meg Identified for certain, I needed to get it looked at in person. So I took it there asking for an ID by Dr. George, the fossil museum educator and I was finally given the 100% certain thumbs up that my little tooth was from a megalodon and they were kind enough to give me a little case to put it in. I also found lots of other teeth too! Check it out sometime, it’s awesome there.

sixgill pete
@eannis6 should have let us N.C. folks know you were heading there. We could have met up and possibly took you hunting in some other spots. The museum is great and the spoil piles do produce some decent stuff still. But not the finds like there were in years past. Curious, who at the museum I.D.' your tooth? Should have waited until May and came to the Fossil Festival, as many of us here on the forum display there with the the NCFC and other associations. sixgill pete
George is a great and very intelligent person, I have known him for almost 40 years. He is actually a medical doctor, not a paleontologist. He delivered my youngest daughter and one of my grandsons. But, if he says it's a meg it's a meg. 1 Bulldozers and dirt Bulldozers and dirt behind the trailer, my desert Them red clay piles are heaven on earth I get my rocks off, bulldozers and dirt Patterson Hood; Drive-By Truckers May 2016 May 2012 Aug 2013, May 2016, Apr 2020 Oct 2022

Thanks for the info, and that’s neat that you’ve known him for so long. He sure was a very friendly and kind man!

I sort of wrongly assumed that a man working in a fossil museum with his doctorate was a paleontologist- but at least he was very knowledgeable 1 minute ago, WhodamanHD said: Tell that to the meg... George is very knowledgeble and yes a heck of a nice guy. The director of the museum has her master's in geology.
