Grandfather's attic 09/02 mystery finds.

Back again with only two items we couldn't label or didn't recognize, but were tucked away in boxes, an indication whatever it was, it was important.

 

#1: ??? Size indication: Half an inch - around 1,5 cm. Really small.

#2:??? Size indication: Each circle is only a few millimeters wide.

Yes, solitary scleractinian coral and Nummulites.  Both are widespread in Tertiary rocks, so pinning down a locality would be very unlikely.

Hi LILDRAGON,

 

This is a solitary coral.  It looks very much as Stephanophyllia nysti.

 

I send you a picture of a species found in the Netherlands.

Winterswijk-Miste

Miocene, Langhian, Breda Formation, Aalten Member, Miste Bed
