Can across this one recently on our favorite auction site, a torvosaurus tooth from colorado. Though with no intention of buying especially at the high price tag it is at I have my suspicions, the seller claims it its 100% no repairs or restoration. Looking at the pictures I highly doubt it as it looks extremely repaired to me and some of it especially in the picture zooming into the tip reminds me of the little air holes found in fake cast trilobite. Idk how much is repaired or even if the whole specimen is fake, I'd be interested to hear what you guys think. Definitely a gigantic red flag to me.

Looks like a bad cast to me. I don't think any of it is real. On some of the closeups it looks like there might be a few air bubbles.

I'm no expert on dino teeth but I would be very suspicious.

The tip has definitely been cemented on and not very well, it doesn't seem to match the rest at all.

It would be okay if the seller said it was added on, but saying no repairs or restoration makes me nervous.

The serrations run down the tip but don't continue onto the other bit, which they should on Torvosaurus.

I think a good tip has been added to a rubbish tooth without a tip.

But let those better versed than I have their say...............

I like her fingernails :D

I initially saw this tooth on FB and the individual was raving about it.  Individuals putting valuations up $3000 on it and making a big deal about the size.  To me its a piece of junk, would not take it if it was free.

What you might have here is a tip that was missing and replaced by a casted one.  Using the old moroccan trick to hide joints with matrix.  The rest of the tooth is just poor preservation with some fill.

The other side. You can see the tip does not belong to the tooth

Yep this tooth is just all around bad news as I figured, apparently the seller got it from the tuscon show I think. Probably trying to profit off a cheap buy but the shape this tooth is in is irredeemable, hopefully the seller didn't pay anywhere close to the valuated price that it is now selling for.

As my bat friend @Tidgy's Dad said in the middle of the night, I'm not an expert on teeth either...

But I do not think the saleswoman's fingernails are real, in my opinion she's wearing a composition of real nails with false nails. I also do not think the tooth is 100% real, but yes, this tooth is also a composition!

Real nails and false nails?

Composite fingernails?

Unforgiveable! ;)

Oh yeah, it's a technique where big fake nails are glued over small nails. Same thing this tooth that is made with various parts of real teeth! :P

But i bet the composite nails cost a lot less than what they were asking for this horrid tooth. :)

This "tooth" is about as real as my French accent.

Ebay should take this down since the seller described it as 100% no repairs or restoration.
