Pseudogygites Posted February 20, 2018 Share Posted February 20, 2018 I found this weird looking fossil on a trip to an exposure of the Billings Shale formation of Ottawa, Ontario. This formation is late Ordovician in age. It looks either circular or spiralish in shape. Does anyone know what this might be? Crinoid stem? Ammenoid? Nautiloid? Gastropoda? UFO Imprint? There are actually about three of these in the rock in the picture, and more in others. I only showed a picture of the best preserved one. I've seen pictures of similar Orthocone shells in cross section. I have also found bivalves in the Billings Shale Formation before, but none as big as this thing, so I think it must be a nautiloid cross-section.
