Pipefish

Howdy. I found this fossil pipefish but I'd love to double check with you guys to make sure it's real. Also, is this kind of thing rare or common? Seller says it's from the Santa ynez valley.

But of course not Syngnathus incompletus - this fish is from the Oligocene of the Carpathians

Yours is a Hipposyngnathus imporcitor Fritsche, 1980 from the Miocene of Buellton (Monterey Formation)

It appears to match better with Syngnathus, according to Fritzsche 1980
